Welcome to the SPE Delta Section website. I hope you find the site useful, informative, and easy to navigate.

The website features a direct, secure environment to process credit cards for on-line registration. Event registration and payment is fast, secure, and reliable. The user receives notification within seconds whether or not the credit card transaction is successful. Credit card number and payment information go directly to the bank for processing and only exist in an encrypted environment. Registration information is stored by the website for our use in preparing nametags and an e-mail receipt is sent to the user.

Our goal is to serve our membership and industry better. Please continue to share your ideas and suggestions with us as we prepare for a great future.

Technology transfer

Technology transfer is one of the main objectives of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Access to the latest technology and methodology is critical to maintaining relevancy as professionals.

The Delta Section accomplishes technology transfer by several means including our General Section Meetings, Focus Meetings, Joint Society Meetings and the Deepwater Symposium. We also play host the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition about every three years (hurricanes not withstanding).

The Symposium is a joint effort between the Delta Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), New Orleans Geological Society (NOGS), and American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE).

The primary means of local Technology Transfer are the monthly General Meetings which are normally held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Fairmont Hotel in New Orleans.

Focus Meetings

Focus Meetings provide the means of locally presenting topics which are more technically oriented to a specific aspect of an operation or technology. These meetings are normally held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Holiday Inn Superdome.

Future Engineers

Study after study indicates that our industry is approaching a crisis of personnel. Fewer and fewer high school graduates are aspiring to become petroleum engineers specifically and engineers of other disciplines in general.

The Delta Section is committed to educating our communities and the schools therein about the cuivre prix & the opportunities afforded by the Oil & Gas Industry. To that end, we provide scholarships to qualifying High School graduates as well as to university students to assist their efforts in attaining an engineering education.

One Voice Committee

Rollout Meeting Minutes | Rollout Meeting Highlights | One Voice Committee Mission Statement

At the Annual Joint Energy Industry Association in November, the One Voice Committee made its debut. This joint industry committee is devoted to recruiting high quality students into the Petroleum Industry and improving the public image of our industry through education and public outreach.

The concept is to combine forces to formulate and deliver a powerful message that the Petroleum Industry offers a variety of attractive career alternatives.

This message comes from an industry using cutting-edge technologies to empower the people of the world with minimal impact on the environment. “We want people who are interested in making a difference in this world,” said Josh Etkind, point man for the committee. He asked for participation in the “One Voice” committee from a team of professionals who represent all the organizations and as many companies as possible to collaborate on the creation and delivery of this message. Every organization and company has some public relations, scholar-ship, and/or career guidance efforts currently underway. Together we can be so much more effective.

Participants best suited to join this committee are currently serving on a committee related to public relations, scholarships, career guidance, public outreach, or education in their organization or spirited individuals especially interested in these areas. One or two representatives from each organization and company is the first goal. Details will come out of that group, tentatively scheduled to meet on January 21, 2004.

The intent is not to pull in all resources from existing entities, or to end any current programs ongoing, but to coordinate efforts, eliminate redundancies, and take advantage of synergies.

Louisiana State University Student Chapter

Louisiana State University has an active and vibrant Student Chapter and the aim of the Delta Section is to work as closely as possible to support their efforts.

Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair

The Vision and Mission of the Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair is to encourage the young men and women of our community to compete in science and engineering, in an arena where they can explore their boundaries, be evaluated rigorously and fairly and be rewarded and recognized for excellence.

The Delta Section supports the efforts of the Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair organizers. We provide awards for first, second, and third place in the Energy & Transportation Division.

Legion of Honor

Richard M. (Dick) Pitcher has reached a 50 year milestone of SPE membership and will be inducted into SPE’s Legion of Honor at the December 9 Section Meeting.

Dick is a WWII veteran and received an M.E. degree from Oklahoma State in 1947. He spent the next 40 years with what’s now known as ExxonMobil, but in his days it was Carter Oil, Humble Oil, and Exxon. Dick rose from trainee in Seminole, Oklahoma to Division Engineer in the Carter organization and became Sr. Sup. Engineer, Div. Staff Engineer, and Technical Advisor when Carter merged with Humble/Exxon. Most of his technical expertise was directed to gas and gas processing, including design and construction of compressor systems, sulfur recovery, dehydration, and other gas facilities
